Accelerating Auckland Gains Charitable Status

Date: December 22, 2008

Through its Constitution, Accelerating Auckland has defined its objects and powers as being for the purposes of the advancement of education within New Zealand and to deliver and implement strategies that will be beneficial to the citizens and communities of New Zealand.  These purposes fall within the guidelines for meeting a well established common law test used for defining a ‘charitable purpose’.

With this mind, in 2008, the Taskforce members agreed to seek charitable status for Accelerating Auckland.  Thereby all funding raised could be more effectively and efficiently used to develop New Zealand’s productivity and innovation.

Added to this mind set, changes to the constitution were made to better reflect a drive to work for the better good of all of New Zealand and not be constrained as such to the Auckland Region.

This successful registration as a Charitable entity will now allow any funding partners to realise a better impact for their contributions.

Further Accelerating Auckland will seek through 2009 to change its name to better reflect its developing, more national focus. This should see ‘Accelerating Auckland’ evolve into ‘Accelerating Aotearoa’.
