Digital Careers Expo attracts industry and students from throughout Canterbury

Date: December 02, 2009

CPIT played host to Christchurch’s inaugural Digital Careers 2009 Expo yesterday, where members of New Zealand’s ICT industry met with students from Canterbury’s major tertiary education institutes to discuss potential employment and career opportunities.

Coordinated in collaboration with Accelerating Aotearoa, the Department of Labour and Immigration New Zealand, the expo was a first for Christchurch and CPIT, and proved a popular attraction with close to 100 students registering their interest on the day.

CPIT’s Alison Young, the new Head of the School of Computing, said the event was “booming” with students representing all the main tertiary education institutions from universities through to PTE's and, of course, CPIT.

“The expo was a fantastic opportunity for students to hear from industry experts about the types of skills and attributes that the digital industries need now and in the future,” she says.

A career in the digital industries can involve working in areas such as systems management, software or network engineering, web design, business analysis or gaming development.
